Few places make me happier than a library, so when I was asked to teach a Social Media Workshop for Seniors at the John Igo Branch Library in Northwest San Antonio, I said yes!

The Igo Branch, named for San Antonio “educator, writer, artist, photographer, producer, critic and civic leader” John Igo, opened in December of 2007. Designed by RVK Architects, the library is set in a 24-acre park named for former City Councilwoman Bonnie Conner. While the library itself is supremely inviting, it’s the heritage oak out back that’s the real Siren. No need to pull up a stump. Stone benches are at the ready for nature-loving readers.

Aside from the myriad of services that the library provides, the Igo is known for its range of active groups: Baby Time, Toddler Time, Tween Time, AFI Film Club, Chess Club, Lego Club, Mystery Book Club, Genealogy Club, Romance Readers Club and more. The Senior Group, the Elderberries, was a receptive audience, eager to learn about Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Youtube and more. I encouraged the seniors to start their own blog to share their personal histories and photographs with their children and grandchildren. I hope they do!

The Igo Branch Library is open daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., except on Mondays and Wednesdays when it’s open from noon until 8 p.m. The library may be reached via the #605 bus.
