I love to travel, and I love to write about traveling. Since my gallivanting budget is limited, I’ve decided to become a tourist in my own town, San Antonio, Texas, which happens to be one of the most beautiful, historic and romantic cities on the planet.
This blog is for those of you, both visitors and natives, who want to get beyond the Alamo and the River Walk. Those are definitely places you’ll want to visit while you’re in town, but San Antonio and the surrounding region has muchísimo more to offer. That’s why I wrote “San Antonio’s Passport to Fun,” a guide of 101 things to see and do in the Alamo City!
It is my hope that this blog and my book will help you to get off of the beaten track and make the most of your time in San Antonio. ¡Bienvenidos!
Denise Barkis Richter, Ph.D., author of “San Antonio’s Passport to Fun,” has been blogging about San Antonio since June of 2010. Follow her at facebook.com/SanAntonioTourist so that you’ll never miss a post. Her love affair with the Alamo City began at Hemisfair in 1968. She moved to San Antonio in 1979 as an 18-year-old college student, and San Antonio has been her home ever since. Denise completed certification to become a professional tour guide in 2019. As a native San Antonian this blog will provide an important resource for the visitors to our city. It will help navigate those to the most interesting, fun and tasty sites and activities our city has to offer.
Thanks, Cliff! Let me know your SA favorites, and I’ll try to incorporate them. Cheers!
Love your blog! I’ll let my Humanities students know about it!
Muchas gracias, Mariana! Time to do some exploring in our own fair city. Hasta pronto!
This is great, Denise. I already learned a lot and will be exploring around our city with you as my virtual guide this summer. Blessings, Diane
Always looking for things to do with the kiddos! The city bus is always an adventure. Interesting conversations! Have a happy summer. Cheers, Denise
Great idea! I think you can provide a valuable service to many people that are stuck in a closed loop of doing the same thing day to day and never become aware of the world around them in San Antonio.
Thanks! Come visit, and I’ll show you some places off of the beaten track.
I just learned about your blog, sanantoniotourist. You have lots of great photos!
Your blog reminds me of a couple friends who have blogs also highlighting different aspects of San Anto:

I look forward to future entries!
Diane, Thanks for your kind words! I look forward to reading your friends’ blogs. Let me know if you have any favorite haunts that I should research and write about! Cheers, Denise
