San Antonio, Texas, is one of the most romantic cities on the planet. Aside from the San Antonio River Walk, which is perfect for strolling hand-in-hand with your amor, the Alamo City also offers horse-drawn carriage rides to take you and your sweetie for una vuelta around downtown.
The Yellow Rose Carriage Company has been in business since 1982, and it’s no coincidence that Valentine was the name of the company’s first horse. Lone Star Carriage Company has been in business since 1981, and their slogan is “Let’s horse around in San Antonio!” Bluebonnet Carriage Company was founded in 2005, and their mission is to make the ordinary truly extraordinary. According to their website, their Valentine’s package, a 20-minute tour of downtown, includes a cozy blanket for snuggling, a long-stemmed rose and a box of chocolates. Sign me up! Dark chocolates, please. I’ll bring the champagne. You may find the horse-drawn carriages across from the Menger Hotel, adjacent to the Alamo.
The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau lists the Ten Most Romantic Spots in San Antonio on its website. You may submit your favorite romantic spots on their Facebook page during the City of Yellow Roses’ Romance Week, Feb. 10-19. The bureau also provides Valentine’s Week specials on hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions. Gotta love that!
