Give me land, lots of land…
In the fall of 2022, my husband rescued two dogs who were about to be euthanized from the City of San Antonio’s Animal Care Services. (Keep an eye on ACS’s Facebook page for alerts! If you can’t adopt, please share their posts to help save lives. Most importantly, spay/neuter your pets to prevent unplanned pregnancies.)
Even though we have a large back yard, it’s a treat for our pups to have a fenced, open space to run like the wind and socialize with other four-legged friends.
Bow WOW!
Lucky for us, the Alamo Heights Bark Park is near our home. Lucky for the citizens of San Antonio, we have more than 20 dog parks to enjoy in every region of our dog-lovin’ city.
For a directory of these parks, check out the City of San Antonio’s list and The Dog Guide San Antonio’s list. Who knew?!
Sense of community
Alamo Heights Bark Park is in a shaded area of the Olmos Basin, where La Jara/Alamo Heights Boulevard and Argo intersect, next to the Alamo Heights High School baseball field. While the pups run around, owners mingle and share stories. The sense of community is strong in a dog park. (Dog lovers UNITE!) Take advantage of this free resource.
The park is open from dawn until dusk, and patrons are asked to support the park in a myriad of ways, from cleaning up to donating during The Big Give. If you’re willing to volunteer, please email thebarkparkah@gmail.com.
