Art museums rank high on my list of all-time favorite places to visit…El Museo de Sorolla in Madrid, the Louvre in Paris, the Tate Modern in London, the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin, the de Young in San Francisco, The Met in New York City and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C….along with the San Antonio Museum of Art, the McNay Art Museum, Ruby City and Blue Star Contemporary all in San Antonio.

With in-person museum visits not possible at the moment, here’s your virtual ticket to four of San Antonio’s museums of art. ENJOY!

San Antonio Museum of Art: Check out Julian Onderdonk’s “Blue Bonnets at Late Afternoon” and “Blue Bonnets at Twilight” (American Art) to feel good about Texas. Diego Rivera’s “Siesta” (Latin American Art) is always worth a look.

McNay Art Museum: Henri Matisse’s “The Red Blouse” (European Art) and George Rickey’s “Horizontal Column of Five Squares, Excentric II” (Sculpture) are musts.

Ruby City: Cornelia Parker’s “Heart of Darkness” and Katie Pell’s “Bitchen Stove” both take my breath away and make me think.

Blue Star Contemporary: I recommend 2012’s “Passage to the Future” and Chris Sauter’s “Echo and Narcissus” (2017), but I encourage you to browse their archives for inspiration.
