San Antonio’s antique shop creates Lasting Impressions

Treasure hunt to your heart’s desire

This is a post that I should have written long ago, but I’ve been a little afraid that if the word got out, I’d find less fabulous stuff waiting for me at Lasting Impressions Antiques on Hildebrand. I’ve decided not to be greedy and share the finds.

Since we’ve been in our home for 28 years now, I’m frankly running out of room to display art and trinkets. My husband jokes that the only places left are the ceilings, and I thanked him for the idea. Maximalism is in, right?!

Carmen, the owner, has a strong eye for all things unique

In the many years that I’ve been shopping at Lasting Impressions, I’ve never walked out empty handed. Usually it’s an awesome piece of art that I find, like the brightly colored Louis P. Lubbering landscape I nabbed on a recent foray. Lubbering was a beloved local San Antonio artist, and I think he is every bit as good as the French artist Andre Derain, but Lubbering’s work didn’t set me back $24 million!

One of my all-time favorite finds from Lasting Impressions is a pair of cloisonné footed urns that sit on a table near our front door. My grandmothers were both into this intricate metalwork, and they handed their infatuation down to me.

Keep an eye out for friends

Not long ago, I found a gorgeously framed print of a New Mexico landscape by Phyllis Kapp that I knew would be perfect in my friend’s Albuquerque abode. I snapped a picture and sent it to her, and she agreed. I have now added personal shopper to my résumé. So can you!

I’ve purchased more than one empty frame at Lasting Impressions to complete an unframed painting I’ve found in another shop. Thought I’ve never purchased rugs or chandeliers, Carmen has a grand selection. She also has an amazing collection of outdoor furniture and objects. Don’t miss taking a look out back while you’re there!
