San Antonio’s Earth Burger benefits our planet

Not too many people know that cows are the number one agricultural source of greenhouse gases worldwide. Each year, one cow belches about 220 pounds of methane, a greenhouse gas that traps heat in our atmosphere.

Meatless Monday was established in 2003 to educate folks about ways to improve their health and the the health of our planet. Luckily for those of us in San Antonio and San Marcos, we don’t have to wait until Monday to eat meatless! Earth Burger, a vegan fast food chain, is open six days a week, including Mondays.

Founded by the owners of Green Vegetarian Cuisine, Earth Burger knows how to serve up delicious, animal-free food. The evening that my husband and I visited, he ordered the Earth Burger, a quarter pound Beyond Meat® burger, and I ordered the Spicy CHIK-N™ Sandwich. Both were yummy good, and you definitely don’t feel slighted. I’m a fried chicken fanatic, and I will definitely order this sandwich again.

As an added bonus, the Earth Burger contains 130 calories, 61% fewer calories than a regular burger’s 330 calories.

To complement our entrees, we ordered a side of kale salad and an order of French fries. I am also a French fry fanatic, and Earth Burger’s crinkle fries are alone worth the trip. Crispy on the outside, and just right on the inside.

Earth Burger sells Stubborn Soda, new to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed their Agave Vanilla Cream Soda. Stubborn’s sodas do not contain artificial sweeteners, colors or high fructose corn syrup.

To top off the meal, my husband and I shared some Coconut Soft Serve and a Chocolate Chip Cookie, both delicious.

One other planet-friendly characteristic of Earth Burger is that they use serving items that are kind to the planet, like compostable cutlery, plates, bowls, cups and lids. No plastic and styrofoam waste that weighs down the Earth.

As we were leaving, we witnessed one of the prettiest sunsets we’d seen in a long while. It was as if the Earth was saying to us, “Well done! Thanks for the assist.” Do yourself and the planet a favor. Visit Earth Burger for an out-of-this-world meal!

Earth Burger is closed on Saturdays, but it’s open Sundays through Fridays. Closing hours vary by location, but every location opens at 11 a.m.
