San Antonio’s 2018 Tricentennial Celebration was not just a giant three-hundredth birthday party. It was also an opportunity for current citizens to leave behind something significant—a legacy—for future generations to enjoy.
Thanks to the vision and planning of Bexar County’s leaders, the San Pedro Creek Culture Park opened near Columbus Park on the western edge of downtown on May 5, 2018, transforming an ugly drainage ditch into a restored ecosystem that celebrates San Antonio’s vibrant history.
Currently, more than 3,900 feet of ADA-accessible walkways allow visitors to stroll past site-specific artwork created by local artists and writers to reveal San Pedro Creek’s long history.
When all four phases are complete, this linear park will add 4 miles of walking trails and 11 acres of landscaping to downtown San Antonio. Grab a refillable water bottle and a pair of comfortable shoes to explore this downtown gem. ¡Viva San Antonio!

Thanks for the heads-up on that park.! 🙂
Thanks for your continued support of my blog! If you would like to come to the launch of the second edition of my book on May 19 at the San Antonio Botanical Garden at 2:30, please let me know. I’d be happy to add you to the guest list. It’d be great to finally meet you in person! Cheers, Denise
Thanks ever so much, Denise, for the invitation! 🙂 I’d love to come, but unfortunately my wife and I will be at the “Hamilton” performance at the Majestic at that time. 🙁 Maybe some other time.
Have a wonderful Sunday,
Pit
I need to take the familia out this summer!
You definitely do! It’s going to open up that part of downtown. I’m excited that the Alameda is finally getting its due, and it’ll be fabulous to have KSTX downtown.
If you haven’t been yet, put it on your TO-DO LIST quick! It’s such a lovely addition to downtown San Antonio. FREE! Thanks for reading/commenting, Juan. Cheers, Denise
When will San Pedro Park, the beginning of the San Pedro Creek, be restored. So much of San Antonio’s early history started there.
Good question! San Pedro Springs Park is one of the jewels in San Antonio’s crown, and it deserves all the love it can get! The City of San Antonio’s Parks & Rec Department should know when/if it’s on the TLC list.
