Takas Park pond in Windcrest, Texas.

Takas Park sparkles in San Antonio’s NE quadrant

Windcrest’s jewel of a park

Bexar County has 19 municipalities within its border, and the city of Windcrest, famed for its holiday lights in December, is located in the northeast quadrant of the county.

For a town with approximately 6,000 residents, Windcrest surely has one of Bexar County’s most well-rounded public parks. You name it, Takas Park has it, including a walking trail with exercise equipment; basketball courts; tennis courts; pickleball court; baseball fields; soccer field; shaded playground; Little Free Libraries; picnic tables; dog parks for both large and small dogs, and a Civic Center!

Stretch your legs

Walking is my jam, so I’m always happy to find a new park to explore. The walking trail at Takas Park is level, and wildflowers, especially Texas’ buttercups (Pink Evening Primrose), were in bloom. Residents walking their dogs on leashes were out enjoying the beautiful day.

The Windy Hollow Trail, partially funded by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, circles around a tree-lined pond, perfect for a picnic or a t’ai chi chih session. Nearby benches provide a place to sit and enjoy the soothing sound of the pond’s fountain.

But wait, there’s more!

Windcrest offers three more public parks–Autumn Sunset, Brook Falls and Winn–so when you’re in the area, you may hop from park to park.

Takas Park is located at 9310 Jim Seal Drive, and it is open daily from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.
