The Boeing Center at Tech Port is San Antonio’s one-stop shop for innovation

Thanks to my Godson, I know the teeny tiniest little bit about electronic sports, better known as esports (pronounced E-sports). So when I read that San Antonio was opening a Tech Port Center and Arena at Port San Antonio to be able to host esports tournaments, my antennae went up.

Touring the Boeing Center at Tech Port, I learned that the Tech Port campus is much more than about hosting multiplayer video game esports tournaments. It’s also about providing a 3,100-seat venue for concerts and conferences, a home for the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology, and a Tech Collaboration Lab that encourages tech firms and universities to brainstorm together.

Tech Port’s ultimate goal is to provide a space for San Antonio to blossom into an international leader of innovative technology.

Speaking of innovative technology, the inventor of the cell phone camera, David Monroe, is the mastermind behind SAMSAT (San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology). His vision was to create a space for kids to get excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) via robots, coding, 3D printing, autonomous vehicles and more. I’m no longer a kid, but I was awed by the number of cool gadgets on display, many of them hands-on. Monroe has more than 50 U.S. patents to his credit, thanks to his lifelong tinkering that began in childhood.

For parents who are looking for something to ignite their kid’s STEM passion, SAMSAT is offering the T.J. Natarajan 2023 Summer Camps for rising second graders through rising twelfth graders. Topics include video game development, graphic design, cybersecurity, website design, and more.

For those of us who are technology rubes, we can still hang out with technology sophisticates at Boeing Center’s Provisions Food Hall and Bar. Local vendors include Earl Abel’s, Capo’s Pizzeria, Kuriya, La Tienda de Birria, Mr. G Sushi, Smokey Mo’s TX BBQ, and Savage Coffee Co.

The technological revolution is upon us. Check out the Tech Port campus at Port San Antonio to get a glimpse into the future!

    1. I sure hope so! “If you build it, they will come,” right?! I think you’d love SAMSAT. I had no idea that the inventor of the camera cell phone (my FAVORITE invention!) lives right here in San Antonio until now. Thanks for being such a loyal reader/commenter over these past going-on 13 years! :O
