Hawx Burger Bar and Electro Lounge

Update: Sadly, Hawx is no more. For a delicious burger, give Orderup and/or Diana’s a try.

Those of you who’ve been devout followers of my blog know that I have a particular weakness for French fries. They are my Achilles heel. (Brownies, too, but that’s another post.)

So when my friend, Mariana, one of my blog’s staunchest supporters from its beginning in 2010, said she wanted to take me to lunch at a new restaurant with fantastic burgers and fries in her neighborhood, I–of course–said yes.

Hawx Burger Bar and Electro Lounge, located at 2603 Vance Jackson, ROCKS at French fries. We split an order of their simply salted fries to have with our 100 percent turkey burgers. The burgers, served on 100 percent whole wheat buns, with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, avocados and low-fat mayo, were delicious, but the fries stole the show. I’m going back for more fries, and next time I’m going to try their Asiago truffle fries. Swoon.

Our burgers were huge, so we didn’t order any other sides, but a table of gentlemen sitting near us allowed me to photograph their choices: Blue Moon beer-battered jalapeño roulette–the seeds are left in ONE of the jalapeños–and Buffalo wings. Both looked tasty. Hawx has lunch specials every day from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Mariana and I had a late lunch, so Hawx wasn’t full. I can imagine that it’s crowded at lunch, happy hour (Mondays through Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.) and dinner. The covered outdoor patio was inviting, and the large, movie theater-sized indoor screen seems like the perfect place to catch a favorite team and sip on a handcrafted cocktail or draft beer.

I’ll be going back for some more fries…and one of their Fudge Brownie Shakes! (Heaven help me. But that’s why God invented Zumba, right?!)

Hawx is open daily: Mondays through Wednesdays from 11 a.m. until midnight and Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. Their phone number is 210.320.HAWX (4299).
