San Antonio Tourist: Cheers to 10 years!

Thanks to https://www.instagram.com/aedan_reads/ for this artwork!

My first taste of blogging came when I did an oral history of my mother-in-law back in 2003. I followed that with Study Abroad blogs of Spain and France in 2004; Oaxaca, Mexico, in 2006 and 2007; and Spain in 2007.

As a professor of journalism/mass communication, I spent an awful lot of time grading my students’ writing but very little time doing my own. I missed it. Since I received such positive feedback on all of the above, I decided to begin a blog on my adopted hometown to keep my creative juices flowing and to share my amor eterno of San Antonio. I published my first post on June 22, 2010, and I’ve been writing about San Anto ever since!

Happy 10th Birthday to San Antonio Tourist, a blog for folks who want to get beyond the Alamo and the River Walk! This creation has been a labor of love, and I hope it inspires you to venture out of your rut.

Lucky for both visitors to and residents of San Antonio, I’ve barely scratched the surface of this remarkable city. And although COVID-19 has cramped our getting out and about, ain’t nothing wrong with an armchair tour. Scroll down to the alpha-ordered list below to plan your post-pandemic San Antonio adventures! Once we get the all clear, you’ll be prepared to give America’s most vibrant city a whirl.

In case you didn’t know, my blog was turned into a book, “100 Things To Do in San Antonio Before You Die,” by Reedy Press in 2016, and its updated second edition came out in May 2019. You may purchase the book directly from Barnes & Noble, The Twig or Whole Earth Provision Co. here in San Antonio or online through Amazon.

I encourage you to use my book like a passport. Every time you visit one of the 100 things, write the date you did it, the names of your sidekicks and a favorite memory. It’ll become a cherished keepsake. Buy copies for your friends and family members so they can play along! Keep an extra copy in your guest room.

Please like my Facebook page so you’ll never miss a post. If you’re not an email subscriber of San Antonio Tourist, please type your email address into the box below and click the “Never miss a post!” button so that you remain in the loop. I will never share your email, but I will keep you in the know for fun tours I put together. Thrift shops, walking tours and art galleries are on my to-do list! Any others?

I am also available to talk to clubs, businesses and organizations about all the wonders of San Antonio. I also specialize in itinerary planning and small group tours. You may email me at sanantoniotourist at gmail dot com to set something up. Ideas for future blog posts are also welcomed.

Thanks for reading. ¡Viva San Antonio! Con cariño, Denise
